Book Review: The Yoga of Max's Discontent by Karan Bajaj
I recently read The Yoga of Max’s Discontent by Karan Bajaj. This is a fiction novel about the spiritual journey of a man who had worked hard to get himself out of poverty. It takes you on his journey step by step, searching for answers about the cause of suffering.
I want to start out by saying what I don’t like about the book. There was a lot of foul language and sex in this, and I’m not a huge fan of those things in a novel. While I understand what the author was trying to do with these aspects, I still think it would be better without these. However, the character development and story line were wonderful. This novel is a profound exploration of spiritual enlightenment. To me, it seemed that there were aspects of both Buddhist and Hindu spiritualism. I love how this book not only asks but also attempts to answer a lot of the big questions of life. The reason for suffering is one which many people ask and many different religions and spiritual paths try to answer. The Yoga of Max’s Discontent tries (and I think at least partially succeeds) in answering this. If you are interested in different religions/spiritualities or the big questions in life, you need to read The Yoga of Max’s Discontent.
